Yesterday, I had my first cake decorating class at Kake Kreations. I had to bring my 8-inch round yellow cake and a batch of buttercream frosting that I did at home (thanks to my KitchenAid Artisan which made my life so much easier!! It's truly heaven sent!). For my first class, they had me do a butterfly cake. In order to achieve its shape, I sliced my round cake in half and put them side by side to make a butterfly figure. Then, I crumb coated it with my frosting. After a few minutes in the refrigerator, I coated it one more time (this time with lots and lots) of icing in order to cover crumbs and enhance its shape. And then I drew lines with the piping gel and food coloring mixture. In order to achieve the "curves" I used a wooden toothpick to "draw lines" across the colored lines without touching the cake, just the frosting. And then with the use of my #17 tip I decorated the sides of the cake just like writing the small letter "e" with the buttercream frosting. And then I used the rest of my piping gel and coloring mixture to put dots on my "e" design. And then after making its head with the buttercream frosting, i topped it off with some edible glitters!!!
I really had so much fun yesterday! It was such an achievement for me. Even if it's really tiring and a bit costly (with all those materials and ingredients), the feeling is just priceless. It's just so soothing and relaxing.
1 down, 7 more to go...
p.s.
I don't why my photo appears this way when the original is positioned correctly...it won't even let me rotate it. Help!
